The most thinly populated nation in the European Union, Finland was the first country in the world to allow all adults to stand for political office, and the first in Europe to allow all adults to vote. Northern Finland, known as the Lapland, is home to the reindeer and is often suggested to be the home of Santa Claus. Till the end of World War II, Finland had a predominantly agrarian economy, but rapid industrialization turned it into an advanced economy that is today driven by the service sector.
