Equatorial West Africa

Straddling the equator, these three West African nations were important hubs for the Atlantic slave trade. Today, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea boast the two highest per capita incomes on Africa's mainland, their relative wealth driven by the export of oil. Sao Tome and Principe is much poorer and is Africa's second-smallest nation, but has rich flora and fauna.
