Why you should care
Because we care enough to bring you the very best in the new and the next, the interesting and the intriguing — right in your backyard.
Tribe members: We are thrilled to tell you about OZY Across America, our 2014 event series.
Six months after our exciting launch, we have more of the new and the next to share with you. OZY is coming to cities across the nation — there’s even a brief stop in Canada — over the next couple of months. Get ready to meet OZY founder Carlos Watson in person, as well as other members of the team.
Our first event will be in Washington, D.C., next month. In association with NPR, OZY is kicking off our national tour at WORD: A Book Club of Extraordinary Wine, Women and Music. Watson will be interviewing American Ballet Theater soloist Misty Copeland about her memoir, Life in Motion.
Copeland is the only African-American soloist at the American Ballet Theater in New York, one of the top dance companies in the U.S. That alone is an extraordinary achievement, made all the more remarkable by the fact that she did not start studying ballet until she was 13, which is considered quite late. She also overcame a difficult childhood, which she has described as “barely surviving.” She has since gone on to a spectacular career, performing in ABT’s “The Sleeping Beauty,” appearing in a Prince video and launching her own dancewear line.
Join us on Friday, March 7, in Washington, D.C., at NPR’s Studio 1. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and tickets are $20, which includes a complimentary glass of wine and live music with award-winning vocalist Maya Azucena. Tickets for this spectacular event are available here. We can’t wait to see you all there. And if you are not in D.C., don’t fret — we’ll also be visiting Oakland, Los Angeles and Chicago. More details to come soon!
