Why you should care
Because rape culture, dumpster, six months.
One year out of college, I already miss the hallowed halls of Stanford University, the fields of green grass where I used to curl up with a textbook or the grand water fountains I would plop down after a tough political science exam. But the perpetual spring of Stanford belies what went down two years ago, not far from where I perched and relaxed. I bawled when I first read the 12 searing pages that have gone viral and ripped the hearts of many more. That was before I saw the words “six months” and “swim career” floating around in my newsfeed. Now, I’m livid – a visceral, raw emotion that I don’t know what to do with. As it turns out, I’m not the only one.
