Republic of the Congo
The smaller of the two Congos separated by the eponymous river, the country is one of Africa's most urbanized, with most of the population concentrated in cities in its south. Tropical jungles dominating the rest of the nation are mostly uninhabited. A major oil exporter, it boasts thrice the per capita income of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but has grappled with many of the same challenges: Cold War battles, coups, and now, a leader who refuses to leave.
