Guatemala is Central America's most populated nation, while Belize has the fewest citizens in the region. But despite that mismatch, the neighbors have engaged in repeated border standoffs, over Guatemala's assertion that Belize belongs to it. Both are major exporters of raw sugar, but Guatemala's economy also depends heavily on remittances from nationals living in the U.S. Both countries also both count tourism as a major economic driver.
