The first Black African nation to win independence, Ghana is West Africa's second-largest economy after Nigeria. It is home to majestic forts, beautiful beaches and diverse fauna. Ghana was a pillar of the Non-Aligned Movement, which sought to keep developing countries out of both Cold War blocs, before a series of coups derailed the nation. But it is now once again a stable democracy and an African soccer power.
