Central African Republic
The landlocked nation has the world's lowest per capita income, and ranks last out of 188 countries in the U.N.'s Human Development Index. The country sits within the basins of the Ubangi and Shari rivers. Torn by civil war, its territory is today divided among 14 different militia, with the federal government enjoying little control beyond the capital, Bangui. The mostly tropical country is home to cheetahs, leopards, lions and rhinos, but poaching has left much of this wildlife in danger.
