Arunachal Pradesh is home to the world's second-largest Buddhist monastery, in the town of Tawang(only the Potala Palace in Lhasa is bigger). Large parts of the state are claimed by China, whose troops occupied some of those regions during the 1962 war with India. It was through Arunachal Pradesh that the Dalai Lama fled to India from Tibet.
