Following Sen. John McCain’s death Saturday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey faces the daunting task of filling the famous statesman’s congressional seat. Yesterday Ducey said he won’t appoint a successor — who will have major implications for Washington’s delicate political balance — until after a series of memorial services this week. Yet while many Americans are remembering McCain as a hero, his legacy is quickly fading in the race for Arizona’s other Senate seat: All three Republican candidates are courting President Donald Trump’s populist base and distancing themselves from the celebrated senator.
