Washington Capitals Win Stanley Cup
It only took 44 years and 28 playoff appearances. The Capitals won their fourth straight game, overcoming a one-goal deficit in the third period with timely goals from Devante Smith-Pelly and Lars Eller to beat the Las Vegas Golden Knights 4-3. It’s D.C.’s first major sports championship since winning the 1992 Super Bowl, and the first Stanley Cup for both the NHL’s most successful coach without a championship, Barry Trotz, and league legend Alex Ovechkin. The Washington captain earned the Conn Smythe MVP trophy with a franchise-record 15 playoff goals.
