Though Nintendo tried to shut down a Tokyo-based MariCar tour of the city, they’ve been friendlier toward a less commercial subculture that encourages Mario enthusiasts to construct their own costumes and cars in honor of their beloved characters — and experts say the craze is just getting revved up.
