Drone Racing’s Boom Is Going Mainstream
Start your engines — and hone your fine motor skills. Over the past four years, drone racing has gradually built up a stable of established local, national and international events. Crowds turn out to see tricked-out custom drones navigate obstacle courses at up to 80 mph, with pilots using virtual reality goggles to get a drone’s-eye view. But it’s not easy to spot the little buzzers moving at high speed – for now. With ESPN having streamed the recent National Drone Racing Championship, we might soon be seeing the sport enter the big leagues.
