Escaped Zoo Animals Roam Flooded Tbilisi
Where’s Noah when you need him? Flooding in the former Soviet republic has killed at least 12 and all but destroyed the Georgian capital’s zoo, enabling lions, tigers, bears and at least one hippopotamus to run free. Authorities are scrambling to recover the beasts while ensuring the city’s 1.1 million residents are safe from both the fugitives and the surging Kura River. The hippo has been subdued and a few animals have been killed, but folks are being advised to stay inside because it’s unclear how many creatures remain at large.
