  1. “King of Clay” Wins Ninth French Open

Rafael Nadal claimed his ninth French Open title and retained his ranking as world number one in a comprehensive four set win over Novak Djokovic. Despite dropping the first set, the Spaniard fought back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4. Having claimed his 14th Slam, Nadal is tied second with Pete Sampras on the historical leader board, snapping at the heels of Roger Federer’s 17 Slams. Having started strong, Djokovic visibly struggled to cope with the hot weather in Paris and bowed out of the fourth set with an anti-climactic double fault.
