The Presidential Daily Brief

  1. Weekend Warriors

Worldwide 1.2 million people are battling the coronavirus, and more than 65,000 have died. America’s epicenter, New York, expects to see its apex in the next few days, according to state Gov. Andrew Cuomo. More than 3,500 have died thus far in the Empire State. Tens of thousands of health care workers are responding to Cuomo’s call for volunteers to fight the virus, and China is sending 1,000 ventilators to New York. If you can survive without a grocery run, now’s the time to hunker down, says Dr. Deborah Birx.

  2. Will Bernie Stand Aside?

Democratic presidential candidate and former veep Joe Biden will soon start vetting potential (hopefully meme-worthy) running mates. He’s well ahead in the delegate count but doesn’t want Sen. Bernie Sanders thinking he’s “being presumptuous.” Thus the heads up. Cuomo fans wish Biden wasn’t so committed to nominating a woman; they’d rather see the NY governor on the national ticket. Meanwhile, some inside the Sanders camp reportedly think their candidate should bow out, but the Vermont-based folk singer still says he has a narrow path to victory.
