  1. Johnson Requests Brexit Extension

As anti-Brexit protesters crowded London streets, Parliament again forced a delay in the EU divorce effort Saturday. MPs voted 332-306 to approve MP Oliver Letwin's measure to "withhold support" for Prime Minister Boris Johnson's fresh-from-Brussels arrangement. The deal was enabled by a new customs scheme to keep Northern Ireland's border with Ireland open, but the Letwin amendment requires that all legislation needed to make that work be passed before the overarching agreement is approved.

How did the prime minister handle it? To meet his obligation following Saturday's deadline to ratify a plan, Johnson sent the EU an unsigned letter requesting an extension past the Oct. 31 deadline, along with a note calling the delay a mistake.
