Sean “翔雲” Daniel Culligan is the only twenty-something we know with a pension. He earned that from a year in Japan after college, teaching English, devouring Japanese lit and food, and, yes, earning himself a neat little retirement package. Hats off to Japanese government policy.
Before the land of the rising sun, Sean spent most of his years right here in California. A native of Salinas — aka Steinbeckland — he ventured into the fog to study business at the University of San Francisco. Biz isn’t what his classmates at school would have pegged him for. They’d have guessed he’d go for art, particularly given that his high school extracurricular habit was designing custom shoes. As an International eBay flip master, he does have a certain way with money (we weren’t entirely sure what that meant, but it did make us want to hand him all our dough and see him multiply it manyfold). Photography eventually came calling, and Sean landed his first job at the San Francisco Chronicle, helping out at the 49ers playoff game against the New Orleans Saints back in 2012.
What else? The hip hop enthusiast (hit him up to talk MF DOOM and Action Bronson) has worn a towering pile of hats here at OZY. Yes, we mean that both ways. He started out as one of the hardworking professionals who helped us with our spring 2015 site redesign. Since then, he’s drawn some of our favorite illustrations, cooked up gorgeous graphics, and otherwise put his sharp eye on all things art and photo. The only thing we know of that he can’t do is solve that last third of a Rubix cube and skydive. But we can wait a minute.
