Why you should care
Whether you’re single or in a relationship, gay, straight or otherwise, we’re gonna need an answer.
As Christmas draws nigh, and the weather starts to grow ever so chilly (even in California), it’s easy to fantasize about snuggling up by the fire with that special someone. Hold up: I’m single. And I’m pretty sure that my mom is the only one who thinks I’m special. Guess my Pillow Pet will have to suffice.
The flood of ecstatic engagement posts in your Facebook feed (“I said yes!” “He liked it so he put a ring on it!”) might make you think otherwise, but the truth is that the majority of 20-somethings today are still unmarried: In 2010, only 20 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds were married, compared with 59 percent in 1960, according to the Pew Research Center.
Relatively comforting statistics aside, I often find myself wondering: “Why am I single, anyway? I mean, I’m pretty freaking great … heck, I’d date myself!” But would I? Join me as I question others to find out whether they see themselves in a similar light or doubt that anyone would want to be in a relationship with them. Share your take in the comments!
