Rice on Vietnam, Chinese Students and Liberia’s Leadership
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE
As someone who’s been to more countries in the world than most people ever will, Condoleezza Rice delivers a uniquely informed perspective on global trends to watch.
This week, OZY co-founder and CEO Carlos Watson sat down with Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state, in her offices on the Stanford University campus for a wide-ranging conversation on everything from world affairs to her favorite athletes. In Part 2 of our interview, Rice shares her insights on the international scene.
She tells us that despite its political shortcomings, Vietnam is an extraordinary and underestimated country with a young population that is “pro-American.” Of all the places she visited during her tenure as secretary of state, it’s the one she’s “most wanted to go back to.”
A global leader whom she feels people should take greater note of is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president of Liberia. Former Secretary of State Rice says that Sirleaf is impressive not only for her own work, but also for the team of people she’s assembled around her who are determined to make a very tough situation work.
