WHY YOU SHOULD CARE
Because you can’t just “try on” poverty.
By Eugene S. Robinson
Yup, $1.50 a day for five days, for a grand total of $7.50. Next week, the well-known charity, Global Poverty Project, is raising awareness of the 1.2 billion people who are the globe’s most financially worst off by encouraging all of us to try to live on $1.50 a day. This pledge is intended to deepen our appreciation for what “the poor” have to deal with on the daily. Every year, a raft of celebrities join the challenge to help spread the word.
Ah, nothing feels quite as good as getting lessons in giving from those who earn like earning is going out of style.
