Dope Grannies: Will Sue Taylor Open Her Dispensary?
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE
Who will win the next permit in California’s new gold rush?
By Charlotte Buchen
In the peculiar and nascent world of California’s ganja goldrush, politicians are figuring out how to set the rules of the game for a substance that’s still federally illegal. Even Berkeley, California has only issued three permits so far for legal medical marijuana dispensaries. The competition to get the fourth permit has been fierce, but cannabis entrepreneur (and senior citizen) Sue Taylor and her team have made it this far, and have a strategy to win: be “true to who we are.” It’s all on the line for Sue and her son Jamaal, who have invested their family’s savings into the venture.
Watch the final episode in our video series on seniors citizens and cannabis for the surprisingly emotional scene where Jamaal stands up for his mother in front of the entire city council.
