An autopsy of 18-year-old Mansur Ball-Bey, killed by St. Louis police on Wednesday after allegedly threatening officers with a gun, yesterday revealed that he died from a gunshot in the back. The news, coming a year after the police shooting of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson, again drew national attention to police violence against African-Americans. In a CNN appearance, OZY co-founder and CEO Carlos Watson discussed the Ball-Bey case and outlined some steps police and communities can take to defuse tensions and to ensure that deadly force is truly the last resort.
