Why you should care

Because Black lives depend on it.

As we try to process the senselessness of two more Black men murdered at the hands of police — followed by the shock of five police officers fatally shot in retaliation by a sniper — we are at a near loss for words. But here’s one: enough.

Enough of the racism, enough of the bloody bodies streaming across our mobile, laptop and TV screens, enough of the congressional inaction on gun control.

We thought about focusing today on police brutality, police reform, the origins of racism — but we’re choosing another narrative. We’ve decided to combat the lack of empathy and humanity for African-American men and women by too many police officers with a very OZY weapon: a showcase of Black excellence. Today we offer you a handful of recent stories that celebrate the full breadth and depth of Black humanity. Let us know what you think.
