Matthew knows how to apply a bit of logic. This New York native is nuts about KenKen (a logic puzzle like Sudoku, but with more math!) and has a few other addictions, namely touring open houses in Manhattan and Brooklyn, especially in the Dumbo neighborhood. But he’s loath to name favorites when it comes to just about anything else.
His preferred music? Classic rock and hip-hop. “My Spotify account is a must-have. That way I’m not just listening to Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV and the Beatles’ White Album on repeat,” he says. Similar responses abound when it comes to pop culture faves — he’s a fan of the classics, à la Gay Talese, but enjoys watching Seinfeld reruns and quoted David Sedaris in his wedding vows.
He and wife Darla, a TV producer and NYU grad, met while doing charitable work around town — reading books to children. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Darla often returns with Matthew to Canada’s western shore, where they visit family and challenge themselves to a Grouse Grind hike, aka “Mother Nature’s StairMaster.”
But Matthew’s real passion, at least when it comes to competition, is KenKen and golf. OZY’s new sales director, in fact, earned accolades as the runner-up in the international arithmetic tourney a few years back — and he regularly heads to the greener pastures of Westchester for time on the links.
After nine years at the New York Times, this University of Delaware grad decided to break free of legacy media in favor of something truly new and fresh: OZY.
Our take? A logical choice.
