Why you should care

Because teaching tomorrow’s citizens today about cash and how to keep it might make just a little bit of sense.

With the public school system under siege for underperformance, and every resource stressed trying to deliver the best education to the most students, does it make sense to try to also teach kids about cents, dollars and the inner workings of financial management?

It only takes a cursory glance at the headlines about bailouts, the debt ceiling and all manner of adults acting financially badly to convince us that it does indeed make sense. Whether adults making poor financial calls acted out of ignorance or malice, it occurs to us that a little Fundamental Finance 101 might have mitigated a goodly portion of the pain of the Great Recession. But we’re just one voice out in the wilderness. So, while we wondered, we wandered out to ask others in the world what they thought. And what did we find?

Well, take a look and see for yourself.
